Allison McKready is a succubus. So is her twin sister. But while Allison spends her summer break hiding in the library behind her Goth makeup, Jade fools around as often as she can. Allison can’t believe Jade would ignore their mother’s fatal example so recklessly, but concealing a cursed bloodline and its dangerous effects is far from Allison’s only problem. Mean girl Julie’s snob mob is determined to ruin her summer, and Aunt Sarah’s Bible thumping is getting louder. Only her new friend, Ren Fisher, offers safe haven from the chaos of her life.
When one of Jade’s risky dates leads to humiliation and sudden tragedy, Allison reels, and Ren catches her. But as her feelings for him grow, so does her fear that she’ll hurt him—or worse—in an unguarded moment. The choice is coming—love him or save him—but Allison might not live to make it. One way or another, the curse will have its due.
WHAT? – The ending. I can honestly say I didn’t see it coming. And also just the whole subject matter. Succubi are probably the most sexual creatures you will ever come across which is not a really YA thing. But in A Million Miles Away, it totally worked! It had the teenage angst heightened with the whole succubi angst of not being able to have a romantic relationship.
YES! – I absolutely loved the whole succubi angst. It’s kinda like the whole “I can’t be with you because I want to eat you” Twilight thing but way better. The whole book had a lot of action from beginning to end. When you think nothing else can happen, the actions starts up again. It’s just great
UMM… – Why was it so short? Could’ve had way more than that for my taste. I felt like everything happened really quickly and suddenly everything was changing and I just couldn’t keep up sometimes.
But.. – The romance was super cute even if it kinda was instalove-ish. Any guy willing to risk his life everytime he kisses his girlfriend is all right in my books.
And so…
If you’re looking for something with a mix of contemporary and supernatural, this is the book for you. It’s got the cuteness you’d expect from a contemporary and it’s got the interesting problems supernaturals have. Really it’s the best of both genres!
What are your thoughts on this book? Have you read it or will read it?
