Oh god, I have back to back Top Ten Tuesdays where is that consistent posting I promised weeks ago??
So this week on TTT it’s freebie week! As usual, I had no idea what to do but after scrolling through past TTT topics I found “Most Unfortunate Character Names” and it just clicked.
1. Chaol Westfall | Throne of Glass
2. Mare Barrow | Red Queen
Mare literally means a female horse… is it meant to be symbolic or something because I got none of that.
3. Maven | Red Queen
What??? Where is the author getting these from?
4. America Singer | The Selection
She lives in America and she’s a singer!!! Well, she lives in what used to be America.
5. Renesmee Cullen | Twilight Saga
Please never mashup names like this. Restrain yourselves.
6. Peeta Mellark | The Hunger Games
Honestly, who doesn’t think this name is just ugly? I love Peeta, it’s just his name is horrible.
7. Valek | The Study Series
His name really made me want to say it in a Russian accent. You know with the throaty a’s.
8. Casimir | Ruined
I have no idea how to say this… cashmere without the h?
9. Cricket Bell | Lola and the Boy Next Door
How can you not think about cricket chirps with a name like that?
So basically every fantasy series! Seriously though, what is it with fantasy and really weird names?
I got tagged by Victoria over at Addlepates and Book Nerds to do this tag. It’s time for the unpopular opinions to be unleashed.
1. A popular book or series that you didn’t like
Easy. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. That book was just so bad.
2. A popular book that everyone hates but you love
Ok, honestly, The Host by Stephanie Meyer is pretty good. I feel like it gets judged too much because its written by the Twilight author but it’s definitely much better.
3. A love triangle where your ship didn’t sail
This almost never happens to me because I 1. avoid most love triangle books and 2. Usually go for the obvious one. So most of my ships sail 🙂 I spent a good 15 minutes thinking about an answer to this one but I’ve got nothing.
4. A popular genre that you hardly reach for
Stealing one from Victoria and saying horror. I have no idea why people read it for fun. I could stab myself with a spork and it’s basically the same thing as me reading horror.
5. A beloved character you didn’t like
Dimitri from Vampire Academy was just no for me. One he has a ponytail, two he wears a duster in hot weather and three, who would ever choose him over Adrian.
6. A popular author you can’t get into
Time for the real unpopular opinions to come up. I’m going to have to say Sarah J. Maas. It’s not that I hate her writing but more that I can’t get into it easily. I’ll still try and pick up Heir of Fire soon… (maybe)
7. A popular book series you have no interest in reading
The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. This is more of a case of a series I’m probably not going to continue because the first book was nothing special for me.
8. An adaption you liked better than the book
I’m going to say The Duff purely because Mae Whitman did such an amazing job acting out Bianca and made me laugh so much. Also Robbie Amell’s pecs. The end.
While I was on my Tumblr binge, I saw this amazing fanart of Cinder and just thought “I have to share this”
Isn’t it just awesome?? So excited for Winter right now! Just found out there’s an excerpt for it so I’m going to read it now.
Anyways, it’s been a month since I’ve read a few books but didn’t post a review on them because I just wasn’t feeling up to writing them up. I’m just gonna try and review them in one sentence:
Red Queen – Victoria Aveyard: Everyone is a biatch except for the MC’s brother, who’s pretty awesome.
Rites of Passage – Joy N Henley: Badass female lead, wow.
The Juliet Spell – Douglas Rees: Cute but overly so.
All Fall Down – Ally Carter: Interesting but felt way too short.
The Ruby Circle – Richelle Mead: Loved the epilogue, kinda meh on everything else.
I’ve been searching for I Am Her Revenge by Meredith Moore for a while now before I realised it comes out in August in Australia. Just a perk of living in not USA. Just wait till I get my hands on it…
Other than that, I’ve been on Tumblr a lot recently and haven’t read much else. I’m hunting for some more good contemporary reads to get me back into a good reading habit. Well, here’s to what will hopefully be a productive month of reading!
So, how have you guys been? I know, it’s been 2 weeks since I last posted but I was really busy with school. Math is hard 😦
Anyways, I have started reading some other books though. Right now, I’ve started In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken and Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard which I’m LOVING. Seriously, it’s got this amazing feel to it but I do have my reservations about it. I mean, it was described as a The Selection and Graceling hybrid and I have long standing rivalry with one of those series coughTheSelectionSuckscough… Will have to discuss this in the review…
I also got onto Goodreads and realised EVERY SINGLE BOOK COVER CAME OUT! What we have to discuss is the Paper Gods series. The third book, Storm, finally has a cover and it looks like this:
I mean, I don’t hate it but I do hate how it’s not gonna match the other two on my shelf! So these are the first two:
There’s no possible way they will match so my OCD book nerd is just raging.
On a different note, I’m super excited for The Fill In Boyfriend by Kasie West. It sounds so adorable and come on, Kasie West writes the most fangirl worthy books. You’ve got to love them.
So, my question for you guys is what book are you most excited for in the next few months? What books are you reading right now? What books do you recommend? So many questions to ask 😀
