Reading Slump Pity Party

And here we are again at my annual reading and blogging slump, 2 (or is it 3 now?) months and counting. I can solve one of those problems by posting so here’s a post 😀

Welcome to the first session of the Reading Slump Pity Party. While other blogs may provide some actual helpful advice on reading slumps, we here on Panda Hearts Books are here to sit next to you on the floor and cry with you. I know it’s tough but we can all get through it if we stick together. Yes, there might be tears and blood shed along the way, but it’ll be worth it. Let’s discuss the 5 stages of the reading slump:

1. Denial  | The “I’m just in the middle of a slow bit, it’ll be over soon” stage

Take for example Passenger by Alexandra Bracken which I started in March and still haven’t finished. To this day, I will swear on my right hand that I’ll finish it. Ah, yes the taste of sweet sweet denial.

Ok, so a month later and the book still hasn’t been read. Just stay calm, it will happen. UGH THIS IS PAIN! I SHOULD BE FLYING THROUGH IT LIKE I NORMALLY DO!!

3. Bargaining | The “Ok, I’ll watch some Youtube then read before I sleep”

We all know you ain’t coming back from Youtube, it’s a deep dark hole.

4. Depression | The “I’m a terrible reader. I’ve let down the whole book community”

Maybe in between this bookish existential crisis you read a couple of books but you just hate all of them… ALL OF THEM! How is that even possible? And then you go back into the crisis and just lie on the floor.

5. Acceptance | The “Yes, I am in the middle of a slump” stage

Say it with me “I am undergoing a slump and that’s ok.” Ask your friends for some recommendations, scan your Goodreads for something to read and say you’ll pick up a book soon. Good. Now you can go back to lying on the floor again.

… But seriously, in need for books that give me feels.

♥ Prima

Book Travelling Thursdays | Favourite bookish pet

168709Book Travelling Thursdays is a weekly meme created by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog where you choose a book and choose different covers from different countries.

This week is all about the animals and what series has more animals/ creatures than Percy Jackson? Mr Leary, Blackjack, the various unnamed hippocampus…

Original and Favourite Cover:

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

The original has always been my favourite. I love the illustrations for the series and this cover is a complete illustration that reflects the plot.

Other Favourites:

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

So Disney Hyperion republished it in 2014 and just LOOK AT THE COLOURS!

Cover from my country (Australia) and my least favourite:

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

Don’t even get me started on this cover. PJO, HOO and The Kane Chronicles all have really ugly covers in Australia. I actually got Throne of Fire in the American version from Indonesia though so at least one book is pretty XD

Least Favourites:

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1)The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)Född till hjälte (Percy Jackson, #1)

The first one reminds me of the movie and the movie was shit. The next one is also an American one(?), which just goes to show you that one country can have some really great covers and some really ugly ones. The last one is from Sweden… do I even need to say anything?

Book Travelling Thursdays | The best conclusion

168709Book Travelling Thursdays is a weekly meme created by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @Danielle’s Book Blog. Basically you choose a book and choose different covers from different countries.

This week: Everything has an end! Choose your favorite conclusion to a series.

I actually haven’t finished a lot of series. I’m like to play the (book) field! But when I was younger I remember loving this series and the ending was perfect. Ok, I still love it today XD

Original Cover

Twilight (The Mediator, #6)

To be honest, I don’t really know if that’s the original but I’m like 99% sure. It did get published under a different name so… I love The Mediator series so much. Who could forget leather jacket rocking Suze and our resident ghost Jesse? It ended on such a high note and is one of the few conclusions I really like.

Covers from my country (Australia)

Heaven Sent (The Mediator, #6)

We have the original here as well. I really love the cartoony one though. It’s so spot on with how I picture Suze and Jesse and it captures the mood of the book really well. I have the second cover which is the 5th and the last book together. Not the best but it does give a mature feel so I can still read it now and not feel weird XD

Favourite Covers

Yes to the cartoony one. It’s just what I grew up with. OMG THE JAPANESE COVER!  I got so excited when I saw the Japanese one because I thought it was a manga of the series. How cool would that be?? But no, the Japanese people just have great covers. The girl on the front is doing such a Suze pose though, I’m impressed. The Thai one is strangely alluring. I hated it at first but right now, I’m liking it. It’s a nice blue 😀

Least Favourite Covers

Crepúsculo (A Mediadora, #6)Auch Geister sind romantisch (Susannah, #6)

The Portugal just makes it seem like a horror book and to be honest, it’s really isn’t. While yes there are ghosts and deaths, the book is just so much more than that. It doesn’t show the family, the friendship and most importantly, the romance. On the other hand, the German cover is just too chick lit not enough ass kicking.

Have you read The Mediator series? Did you ship Suze and Jesse as hard as I did? I know there’s a spin off but I don’t know if I really want to read it after the ending of Heaven Sent. It just tied up the story perfectly, how could it get any better? Anyways, that’s all from me!

Book Travelling Thursday: Book Siblings Feels

168709I’ve seen this book meme in my feed for ages and I’m finally joining in on the fun! Book Travelling Thursdays is a weekly meme created by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. Basically you choose a book and choose different covers from different countries.

This week: National Siblings Day is a few days away. Choose a book that has your favorite bookish siblings.

It was surprisingly really hard to even find a book with siblings but then I realised I knew all along.

Original Cover:

My Life Next Door

THE GARRETTS OF COURSE!! I feel like this cover is really light hearted and while My Life Next Door is, it also has these really emotion filled scenes.

Cover(s) from my country (Australia):

My Life Next Door

The same as the original just with a bit of text at the top.

Favourite Covers:

My Life Next DoorMinha Vida Mora ao Lado

I really do like the original a lot. The colours and the pretty lighting just work. Plus the models are pretty much what I imagine Jase and Samantha looking like. The cover from Portugal is also really nice. I like the way the words and the flowers are interwoven.

Least Favourite Covers:

Můj život u sousedů (My Life Next Door, #1)Mano gyvenimas šaliaMein Sommer nebenan

The first one is the Czech version and I just hate the stock photo with the sans serif text… it’s just so boring. The second one is from Lithuania and it really just reminds me of a bad Wattpad book. The last one is from Germany. It makes me think of the old Anna and the French Kiss covers and the two books have totally different vibes. It doesn’t really match the plot and emotions of My Life Next Door that well :/

Hello, it’s me

Just in case you haven’t heard the new Adele song yet… it’s amazing 😀

Will post some reviews soon, I’ve just finished the Angelfall series. Wasn’t quite satisfied with the ending (there was this one scene…) but overall it was good. Right now though, I’m in a Wattpad addiction cycle and intense studying/ procrastination period.

Stay safe and read,
