Some things people do when buying books really don’t make sense to me. I always wonder why people buy books in hardcovers. Personally, paperbacks are awesome for me. They’re comfy to read, you can hold them in one hand and they’re light. Hardbacks are really bulky and they’re hard to read because you can’t bend it. On my bookshelf, I can name all my hardbacks. There’s only one (Torment by Lauren Kate) and that’s only because it was cheap so I bought it. Honestly, I don’t think I would actually buy another book in hardback if I got the chance. I guess hardbacks are more for the book collectors which leads me to my next point.
The double buying situation. I’ve heard of people buying books twice in different covers and/or in hardback. I get that it might be a favourite or maybe you like the new covers but it’s THE SAME BOOK. Why would you buy the same book???? You could’ve have bought another book with it!!! Sometimes I will never understand these things. The only reason for double buying in my opinion is if you have it as an e-book first then love it so much you get it in a physical copy.

Hmm, I guess we’ll have to respectfully disagree on this one. My relationship with paperbacks borders on hate. I think it’s because they tear so easily. You’d be surprised how many paperbacks are damaged already in some way in the bookstore and I haven’t even bought them yet (but maybe that’s just my country, I don’t know about yours). You have a point about the weight and how easily you carry around them though. I own all my HP books in hardcover, used to drag them everywhere in my backpack when I was younger, and it was kind of a pain in the ass. 🙂
As for double buying, I can honestly say this is news to me, and it sounds pretty weird. Never met anyone who buys a book more than once. Like you said, why would you waste the money??? I already can’t afford every book I want, certainly not going to buy one twice. This sounds like something collectors would do.

Lol love your HP hardcover story XD. I’ve never had a paperback tear on me before so that might be why I prefer them. That and I spend ages in the store finding the best book out of the lot cover wise. And yes, double buying sounds ridiculous.

Paperbacks are okay, but one of my pet peeves are when you put a book into your bag or something the edge of the book gets a bit damaged. I absolutely can not stand that.
I find that hardcovers are easier to hold like when you put it on a flat surface the pages tend not to flip so much, but with a paperback you actually have to hold it. Lol or is it just me??
Also hardcovers are a bit more expensive, and for new release books, it’s usually released hard covered first like when The Heroes of Olympus, The Mark of Athena first came out.There’s still no paperback for it. I’m okay with any book, as long as the content is the exact same inside 🙂

I have some paperbacks that are a bit scruffy around the edges but mostly they look ok. Then again, I don’t really carry books around places…
You make a good point about the having to hold down a paperback. I do find that annoying sometimes 😀
About the new releases, I usually find them in paperback first… maybe it’s just Australia?

Personally, love hardcovers, and hate paperbacks…at least to own. The look of neat rows of beautiful hardbacks bookshelf makes me so happy, and damaged books drives me insane.
When it comes to double buying, I believe I’ve only done it twice, and that was mostly because I already owned the book in swedish, but wanted it in english (translations are never as good as the original). I don’t think I would do it only for the cover. 🙂

I also get insane when I see damaged books. That’s why I’m so careful with my books. I guess if I had hardcovers it would be easier to keep them in good condition.
I never thought about double buying for different languages. Good point! I add that to my list of double buying exceptions.

I buy hardbacks all the time. I think they look nicer, plus I usually can’t stand to wait for something to come out in paperback. But I have nothing against paperbacks. I usually end up with paperbacks if I come into a series late.
The double buying I don’t do but I was just talking about this on twitter the other day. How when a series first comes out, the 1st book has one cover. Then right before the 2nd book comes out, they release the 1st book with a new cover and then the rest of the series matches THAT cover. Like none of my Delirium series covers match and it drives me nuts. I have considered buying matching covers and if Requiem hadn’t been so terrible I might have actually done it.

It seems that everyone has hardcovers released first… hmm I wonder if that’s just a thing in different stores…
Unmatching covers are a big annoyance for me. I have The Darkest Minds in one cover style and the second book in a totally different one. And they’re also unmatching heights! Ugh, two things I hate in one series.
And about the Delirium series, I could only get through the first one properly. The next one was meh and the last I read a chapter and just skipped to the ending (which was NOT an ending >_<)

My Cahill Witch Chronicles have two different covers and my Sookie Stackhouse books, the first one is the HBO cover because I couldn’t find one with the original cover so it doesn’t match. I have thought about purchasing new copies so they match but I probably won’t because I need to save my money for new books.

I do love how paperbacks are easier to read and are lighter, but I think I tend to have more paperbacks because they’re also cheaper. But I’ll spring for the hardback if I really love the cover. 🙂

Yeah, a big reason why I have heaps of paperbacks is definitely the price. I find hardcovers are more for looks and collecting. I guess if the cover was really pretty, I would buy the hardback… but only if the story was as epic 😀

I HATE HARDBACKS!
Phew. So glad to get that out of my system. Hardbacks annoy the heck out of me because they’re completely impractical (I mean, how do you comfortably read them?) and twice the price of a paperback. Grr.
As for double buying? I think if I was enough of a fan, I might. I bought the Harry Potter series in two different cover styles. But I don’t make a hobbit out of it.

How can you comfortably read a hardback? You can’t. And not to mention they’re heavy. And your double Harry Potters does make sense. I’ve seen heaps of different covers for it and some of them are great. I still think I wouldn’t buy it again though.
