Childhood Books & Feels

So, was a the library the other day and I came across ‘The Rabbits’ by John Marsden (Tomorrow When the War Began) and Shaun Tan (The Lost Thing). I love this book because:

  1. It’s Australian (Woo hoo! Not many of them I like)
  2. Drawings are freaking awesome

Not only that, this book manages to depict the British colonisation – ‘invasion’ some might say- in a different perspective. I remember that the school librarian read us this for story time. I think it affects me more now because I understand the situation between the Aboriginal people and the British. Anyway, that’s enough blabbing on from me. Have you got any childhood favourites?
